Jane Lyons – Date with Fate

A few months ago, you might have seen a show on RTE2 called “Date with Fate”. It was a pilot for a new kind of dating show that shows you how your potential suitors would look when they are a lot older. Tipperary girl Jane Lyons was the female interest in that show. She has the tough job of picking a suitor from judging them years in the future.  The blurb goes as follows:

“Imagine you were single and you had the unique opportunity to take a look in a romantic crystal ball and see how life might possibly look 30 years down the track with a potential partner? It’s the ultimate speed date. Well RTÉ Two is giving one singleton that unique opportunity, in Date With Fate, the new dating show that takes the chance out of romance.

The shoot was a press shoot for the Irish Sun to coincide with the show airing. Unfortunately I don’t think the show was a success and it didn’t get past the pilot stage…. but at least we got to shoot with it 🙂 . The Flutter On By Styling  (http://www.flutteronby.com/)  Team of Nicole and Shauna Spain can take the credit for pulling this shoot together. They organised Jane, the styling and Make-Up artist, Emma-Rose Howard. Some of the lingerie was from Change Lingerie and some was from Dolls & Dreams.

The dresses for the shoot were supplied by Glitterati Boutique. They are a dress hire company based in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, which is just out the road from me. So it was great to be working with local people on shoots. The dress above looks stunning on Jane. We ran out side the studio for a quick shot while the Sun came out to play for a few minutes. Being Ireland and being early February though, it was very cold and we only stayed out for less than 5 minutes.

It was great working with Jane.  As well as being stunning, she is also currently a model with Primadonnas Agency, so that made the shoot very easy. The rests of the team were great also. Shauna was her usual fantastic self with Hair and Nicole worked her styling magic.  I have worked with Nicole and Shauna a few times now on various shoots, but it was the first time I worked with Emma-Rose and she done a great job.

If you want to check out the show, it is available to view on YouTube. You can find a trailer for it below 🙂

April Fitzgibbon

April Fitzgibbon, the Cork lass booked a shoot a while ago to update her portfolio. She was looking to approach an Irish model agency to be represented over here. She mentioned that she was currently doing her modelling work in the UK, but now she was looking to work more at home.

After her shoot in my Wexford Studio, she took her pictures to the Assets Agency Munster open day. This was a day where they search for potential models in the Cork and Munster area. This is a good idea from an agency point of view as a it adds a bit of balance  to the location of models. Unfortunatly with the industry as small as it is in Ireland, most of the work is in the Dublin area. April impressed on the day however and she is now signed on the Assets Munster Section

Fairly soon after meeting April ( or if you follow her on Twitter or FaceBook), you  get a sense of  her pride of being a model who is “100% Natural, from head to toe”.  She does not even have hair extensions….. her super long hair is all her own work. You will also get a sense of her intelligence as she is a self-confessed science lover and wannabe astronaut ( See the Sunday World recently )

April’s mom came along to the shoot with her for drive…. all 4 hours of it. It was a first for me having a parent in the studio during a shoot, but it was great support for April. Other people on set on the day included Nicole & Shauna Spain of Flutter By Styling who provided some of the clothes, April provided everything else her self. Aimee Connolly was also there available for makeup. April prefered to do here own make up, so Aimee was there for touch-ups.

April has been in the press lately with some of the other shots from this shoot. Check her out in the Irish Daily Star and the Sunday World. You can also see her on Joe.ie

Here is another well overdue shoot to appear on the blog. The blog is well behind these days. The plus side is that it means that I am too busy to shooting and editing to be able to put up posts. Although I don’t put up every shoot that I do, I do try to get the majority of them up. So here it goes.

I recently had the  pleasure of shooting with Faye Rooney (Miss Wright Venue 2011) again recently. Faye came for some new shots. I first shot Faye back in  October 2011 when she was the Miss Wright Venue. She is now an employee of the Venue, looking after the VIP Penthouse.

I cracked out the Orbis Ring Flash ( www.orbisflash.com ) for some of these shots. I haven’t used it in a while so I said why not. The orbis has been pretty good to me in the past. Not the cheapest accessory, but it is great quality. It is super  strong and very well made. It has taken a few knocks from me now and hasn’t got a mark on it.

In terms of a showing you a lighting setup shot with the Orbis….. there is not much to show as it is on the camera. The light comes from the same direction each time. The only thing that you can really vary to get different effects is the distance your subject is from the light and the distance your subject is from the background.

Nicole Spain from Flutterby Fashion Styling was at hand to source the cloths for this look and the other looks that we shoot on the day. Amy MaGuire ( http://amymcguiremakeupartist.blogspot.ie ) provided her fantastic make-up skills for the day.

Aisling’s Make-Over

Here is a small selection of shots from a recent shoot with Aisling.

The job of a photographer in my niche is to create beautiful images of you, the person in front of my lens. It is not enough to capture the physical beauty, but also to draw out the inner beauty and confidence that  is buried inside everyone, some people have it buried deeper than others. Once this confidence is exposed and a connection is made with the camera, the result is beautiful. This is what it is all about for me and it is what I strive to achieve. It’s what separates an image that is just nice from one that captivating. A small change makes a big difference.

If there is one message that I want to try to get across to the masses, it would be that you do not need to “be a model” to book & experience your own  photoshoot. You don’t have to be signed with an agency… you don’t have to be entering a beauty pageant….. You don’t need any excuse to have beautiful pictures of yourself.

Some seem to think that if you have professional photos of you on FaceBook where you are looking beautiful and glamorous, that you have ambitions to be a model. This not always the case…… although for some it can lead to an unexpected calling. There is nothing wrong with wanting the experience, the attention and the empowering feeling what comes along with getting a make-over and some fantastic photographs. A photograph captures a moment forever, so why not capture a moment with you looking your best.

Aisling booked a shoot with me some time ago. She had done some photoshoots before and she really enjoys the experience of a photoshoot. She is a confident, beautiful woman who is not shy about letting her photos be seen. She had an idea of what she wanted in terms of styling and she got in touch with Nicole Spain from Flutter On by Styling to come down and style her. Nicole and Aisling  discussed the look that Aisling was wanting before hand and Nicole went out to source the cloths, or bring bits to the shoot that she already had.

Aisling has also worked with Julie Caulfield before and loved her make-up and hair styling and organised for Julie to be there on the day. I have worked with and shoot Julie a few times now, it’s always a pleasure working with her. She did a great job with Aisling as expected.

The shoot went great though, we managed to get through all the looks we wanted. Aisling booked a Full Portfolio Shoot, to that got her 8 photos retouched and printed, but she loved so many that she ordered more. The average is between 10-15 images that people order. That is why I try to under promise and over deliver when it comes to the end product.
